Tony Awards

Tony Awards was named after the co-founder of the American Theatre Wing, Antoinette Perry. It was born in the year 1947 and founded because of the suggestions from the committee of theatrical producers headed by Brock Pemberton.
Tony Awards or The Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre is different from other award giving bodies because it recognizes achievement in live American theatre. Its a US theater equivalent of Oscars which recognizes excellence in motion pictures. Its equivalent in British theater is the Laurence Olivier Award. Theatrical shows were given high importance and attention because of this awarding ceremony being held annually.
Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and American Theatre Wing.
